| The Cultural Landscape Foundation (TCLF), with local partners Preservation Dallas and Historic Fort Worth, Inc., will host Landscapes for Living: This is the sixth of nine regional symposia held in conjunction with the publication of Shaping the American Landscape: New Profiles from the Pioneers of American Landscape Design Project (University of Virginia Press, 2009). The symposium will examine a vibrant period of modernist landscape architecture in Texas noted for great innovation and experimentation.Landscapes for Living will feature 13 speakers, a screening of the rarely seen “WaterGarden” (1974) about Phillip Johnson’s designs for Fort Worth, and tours of publicand private gardens in Dallas and Forth Worth. The symposium will begin with an evening reception on May 6 where TCLF will award three Stewardship Excellence awards. The following day, speakers will address the work of Arthur and Marie Berger (who designed the DeGolyer Estate, now part of the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Gardens, and Temple Emanu-El), and will also focus on several significantpublic commissions and their designers including Fountain Place by Dan Kiley, Heritage Park and the Trinity River Study by Lawrence Halprin, and the Water Gardens, Thanksgiving Square and the University of Saint Thomas, all by Phillip Johnson. | Walk (your dog) for Design Education Texas Chapter of the International Furnishings and Design Association May 15, 2010, 9 am – 12 pm Campion Trails, Bird’s Fort Trail Park, 5757 Riverside Dr., Irving, Texas The IFDA Texas Chapter invites you out to beautiful Campion Trails in Irving, Texas to Walk (your dog) for Design Education. Walkers and their dogs are encouraged to collect donations to raise money for the IFDA Education Foundation. (This is for a charitable 501c.3 organization, and all donations are tax-deductible.) Proceeds from the Walk will benefit the IFDA Educational Foundation. The Foundation offers 15 scholarships and grants, more than any other industry association. However, the needs are greater than ever and IFDA-EF wants to do more. For the top donation earner/walker, there is a prize of a complimentary hotel package for two nights at the Holiday Inn Express in Las Vegas! For the top dog with the most donations, there will be a fantastic doggie spa package! But keep in mind, the donations must be turned in at the event to be counted towards the contests! | White Rock East Garden & Artisans' Tour. The tour encompasses Forest Hills, Little Forest Hills and Casa Linda Estates. Each neighborhood features three gardens with local artists showcasing their art and a plant sale next to one of the gardens. The White Rock East Garden & Artisans Tour charges a minimal $5.00 admission fee. Children under 12 free.
