five exhibitions this year celebrating the ten-year anniversary of the
Crow Collection of Asian Art. The magnificent selection of Chinese
works of art and paintings in this exhibition will offer an intriguing
cultural journey departing from the Shang dynasty and ending at the
dawn of modern China in 1911. Made of different materials, the
bronzes, ceramics, lacquer wares, jades and paintings all testify to
the impressive technical virtuosity and artistic refinement achieved
by Chinese craftsmen and artists. Created for highly diversified uses
in a constantly changing historical milieu, the objects shed light on
our understanding of the cultural, religious and social strands that are
woven into the unique fabric of Chinese civilization. To place China’s
visual culture in an even larger historical context, the exhibition will
include a group of highly important Oing dynasty export porcelains,
which demonstrate how Chinese potters ingeniously expressed a
strong European aesthetic using their own artistic vocabulary.
After the tour IFDA will meet at the Aija Lounge in the Trammel Crow
Center for cocktails! We look forward to seeing you there!
