Kitchen Talk

with

Lloyd Scott & Josy Cooner
The recipe for the perfect kitchen includes more than a few cups of design and
many ounces of blueprint and Lloyd Scott and Josy Cooner are among the
finest “kitchen chefs,” creating culinary work and eating spaces for the future.
For more than a decade the team behind Scott + Cooner  has, together, relied
on their more than 30 years of experience in architecture and interior design,
representing product lines of the slick and sleek, warm and inviting.

“Kitchens aren’t just for cooking anymore,” said Lloyd Scott, a North Carolina
native and former student of the American School of Architecture in Fiesole.
“They have become a public space, a gathering place, and people have
begun to care about the design of the area in a whole new light.”
Among Scott + Cooner’s
accomplishments are the
kitchens, closets and wall units in
the 150 residential units at the W
Dallas Victory Hotel and
Residences, wherein there was no
“standard.”
“Everything we do is a custom
product, precise and hopefully
something that will last the client
forever.  Both Josy and I love the
contemporary look which is
timeless and elegant.  We are, as
a society, just now appreciating
that which began in the last
century but we are catching up.”
Scott + Cooner’s Dallas Design Center
showroom highlights 72 lines including
kitchens by both Varenna by Poliform and
Pedini, with both offering integrated fronts;
where cabinets and appliances can be
staged out of site.  Wall sections slide
across the room,  refrigerators and cabinet
doors that meld into the walls, almost
seemless.  Countertop appliances find
themselves in “appliance garages,”
storage spaces featuring drawers for large
pots and cabinets with shelves that pull-
out.

“The days of reaching into the depths of
space, or not having enough room, are
over,” said Lloyd.  The range in pricing is
from approximately $14,000 for a small
area or loft space kitchen, up to $120,000
or more for a large home.   The
programming and layout of a kitchen can
take from two weeks to six months,
depending on the client and from 12 to
14 weeks to order and install most
products.  “Regardless of the size of a
kitchen or the budget to work with, we
can make magic happen.”

“Parties happen, with one guest or many,
and they begin in the kitchen,” said
Lloyd.  “The kitchen has always been the
place where people gather while dinner is
being readied, now we are turning the
space where everyone feels comfortable,
where they can be a part of the action.”
